In America, there is a groundhog day to predict how many more weeks in winter till spring. In Cambodia, there is a royal ploughing to predict crop yields for the following harvest season. The Royal Ploughing Ceremony, known in Khmer language as Bonn Chrot Preah Nangkol, is a ritual rooted from Hinduism. For Cambodia, the ceremony marks the beginning of the rice cultivation season. The ceremony is usually performed by the royal family headed by the King and Queen, attended by high ranking government officials, foreign diplomats, and Cambodian citizen from around the country.
